Dr. Michael Schneider, the founder and Clinical Director of New Directions Counseling Services (formerly Michael Schneider, Psy.D. and Associates), is a licensed psychologist with 20 years of clinical experience.

A native of the Pittsburgh area, Dr. Schneider received his BA in Psychology from Duquesne University, and his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. After completing a pre-doctoral internship at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, Dr. Schneider returned to the Pittsburgh area

Dr. Schneider has particular regard in his work for the importance of understanding each client as an individual who creates unique meaning and purpose for her or his life. His training in a wide spectrum of psychotherapeutic approaches -- including Gestalt therapy, Psychodynamic/Interpersonal therapy, Cognitive-behavioral therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy -- enables him to incorporate multiple types of interventions with clients depending upon each client’s particular needs.

During the course of his career, Dr. Schneider has become increasingly focused on the interconnection between mind and body with a strong appreciation for the healing potential of human beings. This holistic approach to client care flows naturally from his belief in understanding the person from the inside out. A holistic approach to psychotherapeutic care is far less concerned with labels and diagnoses, and more concerned with working with all aspects of a person in facilitating healing and wellness.

Dr. Schneider also has nearly 20 years of experience conducting Career/Vocational evaluations and providing comprehensive and personalized career coaching services. As a Career Coach, Dr. Schneider draws from his own personal business experience, including nine years owning and managing a private practice. His background as a psychologist provides Dr. Schneider with the unique ability to integrate personality factors and other psychological information into his career advice (unlike other business-oriented career coaches or career counselors), which can be enormously helpful in guiding clients toward establishing and sustaining meaningful, satisfying career/employment direction.
